Hi.
Earlier this week I was given a set of RaceBlade Pro xl mud guards from the ex brother-in-law. After a long thought I decided to fit them on to my Boardman mtb as the Pug road bike rarely comes out this time of the year.
The Boardman is fitted with slick tyres and is used mainly for the dark evening rides down quiet country lanes and away from the mad rush of A road traffic.
So far so good ,in that I'm really impressed with them. As far a mud guards go ( not really a big fan on the looks of them).they don't look to bad. Very easy to fit and seem rock solid whilst out on the bike.
They've cut down on the bike cleaning and have left me ,cow muck splatter free which is a welcome change from the norm.
If your looking for a set of mud guards i can definitely recommend these. :=)

I rode with two guys for a while yesterday with a few muddy minor roads (a section of a 200km audax). They were doing the whole ride together. At the Kington cafe (111km) one asked the other: "Why am I so much dirtier than you" (referring to the front of his tights, mainly). As one who'd sucked one or other of their wheels for the last 10+km (and had preferred the RaceBlade Pro XL mud guarded rear wheel), I opined: "Because your mudguards are better than his." The good ones were the type/model @johnnyb47 has been lucky to receive. The other bloke's were perfectly good set of full length SKS Chromoplastics (with stays bolted on), just like mine, without an extension flap. All our bikes were still pretty dirty, though.

I’m trying to fit some BBB BFD-22 guards to my bike and it’s proving to be hard.

The front brake calliper nut was seized badly but I have that released now.

Rear guard I can’t get the clearance, bike at the LBS is same frame and guards and they fit perfect.

I gave up and polish/waxed my frame instead.

Raceblades are good. Not as good as full mudguards but good.

Only things, first is make sure to either tape the seat stays and forks or put some thin foam rubber to stop marking forks and seat stays.

Second consider extending front blade with 2 bits of double sided tape to direct water under the front fork, otherwise riding in wet conditions with these puts a lot of water directed at your bottom headset bearing i found this out to my cost.

Be sure to keep a watch on your front brake caliper for dirt build up.

Otherwise raceblades are great and i leave them fitted all year to one of my bikes, have fun.

But these aren't any old 'Raceblades'. The OP now has the Pro XL version which have more coverage and a flap on both front and rear; oh and in the package there are some plastic strips to give the protection you advise.
These give as much coverage to 'front caliper' "dirt build up" as normal fit guards.

You aren't describing the pro xl. I have them and they work, but they throw crud all over the calipers - the rear one is the worst in my view. I didn't think about putting a strip under the caliper. The ones you are describing are the raceblade longs.

You aren't describing the pro xl . . .I didn't think about putting a strip under the caliper.
I was describing the Pro XLs but managed to confuse myself regarding the coverage under the calipers. So "These give as much coverage to 'front caliper' "dirt build up" as normal fit guards." is wrong. But the flaps front and rear are generous (and I particularly appreciated the rear flap (of the rider in front) yesterday in the muddy lanes of Shropshire). The plastic strips are for the fork and seatstays.

I'll have to dig out my sks race blade longs. This was the first weekend where I had to spend a wee bit longer cleaning the bike.
