... and does it matter?

Re earlier thread on cable replacement, *before* ( yes, definitely before!) any fettling, this fell out of my right hand side (rear) 105 11 speed 5800 brifter, immediately on peeling up the hood.

First shown against cable end for scale.

What is it, does it matter?

All seems to work fine without, on tbe stand at least.

Looks like the 'main lever support'. See page 18 - 19 of the linked manual. Looks as if it ought to be easy to put back in and that you can get new ones (this based purely on looking at the manual just now ....)

Just slots back in easily - it provides the surface that bears on the inner lever if that makes sense.

Surprised it seemed ok on the stand without it, everything seemed fine in the ride in with it.

Thanks again.

I have managed to break my main lever support as well on my left shifter. Given that it is a lot easier to find stock of right lever supports, I suspect its common to break the left one.

You can still shift without it, but its a lot less smooth and you have to push a lot harder on the lever.

Whilst I am waiting to get a replacement part, I have superglued the broken peice in place, but I am only doing short rides at the moment.
