My wife and I use Windsor Great Park regularly as an area to cycle in. Miles and miles of well kept roads and very little traffic and a beautiful location. We were wondering if anyone knows of any other places in the UK that could match these qualities. If you've never been and that's the kind of cycling you like, then give it a try.

Hey barnstormer, I'm not far from you in Iver Heath. Black park and Fulmar are good aswell. Bit busy around rush hours but otherwise quiet.
I will have to give Windsor great park a try - maybe when I get over to Dedworth to buy my specialized :-))

The Great Park is lovely, and I doubt you'll find many places as large and well-maintained as that outside of a very few private estates. However, as well as the uncharted territory north of Slough :giggle: like Fulmer and the Beeches, there's plenty of good cycling to be had out west, around Warfield, Fifield, Winkfield, Binfield and, because there's no field in it, Hurst. There's also some lovely riding south of WGP, around Virginia Water, Wentworth and across Chobham Common and, if you want to head off road, there's a gazillion miles of easy trails in Swinley Forest.

Thanks Guys thats really useful, will check out out Swinley forest. 530kam, Norms right, Virginia Water is really nice to ride around (weekdays only, weekends it's full of families, kids, dogs etc) and you can then ride by the Guards Polo Club on the way out (a dead straight fast run just short of a mile) and work your way back into WGP.

Yep, we have Northumberland National Park 20 minutes ride NW and The North Pennines 20 minutes West - the latter of which is encompassed in one of the most scenic C2C rides in the UK.

TonyEnjoyD, thanks, what's the distance and how long would it take (roughly), there might be a few of us interested in that C2C

Sorry to intrude, but If it's the one on 1/7 (for memory), I think there are 4 routes. London Eye to Brighton (I think for memory it's 70-75 miles, Hampton Court to Brighton (65 miles), Haywards Heath to Brighton (30 miles), or Brighton to Brighton (60 miles). The one I'm thinking of is Capital to Coast

C2C is Coast to Coast...normally Whitehaven/Workington to Tynemouth/Sunderland with treks across the Lake District passes and the North Pennines. Roughly 140 miles.
