Quick release position

Hi there,
This may sound like a stupid question (I know that there are no stupid questions, just stupid people btw) but is there a correct position for them? Been doing some research and there seems to be a lot of conflicting information. Some say horizontal to the ground so you can get your whole hand around it, others say that this is dangerous as it might snag on something (although I'm not sure what that would be on the road).
Anyone got a definitive answer? Any thoughts would also be most welcome!!!
Thanks
Russ

you could make a specious case for any position around the full 360 range, but i really dont think it matters as long as the wheel is on nice and snug as a result. positioning for ease of levering kinda depends on how you prefer to hold the levers.

so dont sweat the small stuff.

Quick release lever position can provoke as many arguments as helmets.

I favour the Shimano advice.

The most important thing is to use them in the fastened position, not open as I found on a recent club ride....
