Sorry if you've heard this before...

I had the bike now a couple of weeks, and have got up to doing a 7 / 8 miles circuit on the local cycle trail/route. I've been doing this about 3 or 4 times a week, as I 'm trying to build up gradually from nothing.

But a question, well 2. I've started getting really worried, about going on the road, so far ive more or less stuck to the cycle paths / routes, just feel i'm not stable, and really wobbly. I'm hoping to do a 22 mile route, (11 mile each way) but it does involve going on the road for a bit (approx 3-4 miles). Am I being silly, and should just go for it, or should I stick with the shorter runs until I'm more happy?

Also the last couple of days, my chain has just kept coming off, especially on the low gears. I know I have to take the bike back to the shop to be checked, and bits tightened, but is there anything I can do now?

Thanks for any answers.

I hope this will help you fix your chain problem.

Hi wobbly wheels,if i were you i would stick to cyclepaths and quiet roads, dont go onto busy roads if you are feeling scared or unsafe until you feel ok about it,there is no rush, just take your time and when you feel ok about it,try roads your familiar with first and go on from there.

Hi, stick to minor roads at first if you can, put all your high vis on dont give em an excuse not to see you. and give em hell..

if the bike is new shoot it back in the shop maybe just a quick tweak on the high or low tension

You need to figure out if it is fear and/or a lack of confidence holding you back or a genuine acknowledgement that your riding is not yet up-to scratch. For example, when you say you are wobbly is this just at low speeds or all the time. If it is the former then a road trip would probably be safe as long as you are careful at junctions, etc. However, at the end of the day only you can answer your own question. I wish you the best of luck in your riding

Also, is your bike adjusted properly? When I first got back into cycling, my saddle was waaaaaaaaaaaay too low. I felt really wobbly and couldn't explain it, because I used to ride bikes all the time when I was younger and the wobble did not get any better with practice. Then someone advised me to raise the saddle (by about 2.5 inches) and all of a sudden I was twice as fast, no longer out of breath, and, last but not least, no longer wobbling!!!
