If you are just doing a quick 10-12 miler, do you still put full lycra on or just get on and ride in any old gear.

For me, it's full on cycling gear every time.

Depends where I'm going to. Mates' house for a cuppa - normal clothes, maybe undershorts. Otherwise yes, full gear.

Road Bike=lycra, regardless of distance.
Hybrid=normal clothes (with padded undershorts if doing anything more than a utility ride to the shops for example).
Mtb=see hybrid

Always full lycra for me. My commute to work is 10 miles each way and I wear the full kit for that. I still got the odd comment 2 years down the line!

12 mile commute each way, lycra every day. I don't do 'pop to the shops' rides but if I did I probably wouldn't bother changing. Leisure rides I wear cycle kit, but often padded mountain bike shirts and a baggy 'tech' jersey of some kind (MTB or MX)

Hi,

FWIW I'll ride my folder up to ~ 15 miles in normal clothing.*
My "road" bike 15 to 35 miles some cycling clothing.
I never do less than 15 miles on the "road" bike.
But then again I don't go out to hammer 10 miles,

rgds, sreten.

* I've done more, but saddle issues at around twenty
miiles, and you really can't ride a folder in cycling kit.

Anything under thirty miles.... jeans , T shirt, sweater and waterproof . I tuck the end of the right leg of my jeans into my sock. This acts as a red rag to a bull at weekends as the blinged up Roadies see me as bait while I pootle round Richmond Park. Despite the speed at which they pass me, some of the less fit ones, amongst whom I am numbered, draw nearer a bit later sometimes.

Purely leisure rides and I'll wear kit for the most part. Any sort of utility ride and I won't bother changing. All on a road bike.

I currently wear running leggings and running tops if Im on cycle routes, and pretend they are really cycling gear. Do you think anyone can tell? So no extra padding for my bum. Does proper cycling gear make you go faster?

Full Lycra for me even if I'm poor lung with the step kids. I just find it more comfy than my normal clothes even if it's just a short distance.

Wore normal clothes once for an 8 mile ride and I was chaffed so much it stung when I peed!

This time of year I wear some of those padded cycling underwear and athletic shorts and a Dri Star sleeveless t shirt for my fitness rides of up to around 20 miles or so. If I plan to go farther I will wear Lycra riding shorts and jersey.
