I have searched for answers about these hubs. I know they are fairly low budget, but there seems to be mixed opinions about them. I am looking to buy a set of 27 inch wheels with these hubs and Weinmann rims. your thoughts please.

I have had Quando hubs in the past and they have functioned fine and been smooth running. I am often one to advise people to stick with value products rather than pay over the odds for a big name - but wheels make such a difference to how a bicycle rides that I think it is worth spending what you can afford.

Run of the mill Taiwanese/Chinese - nothing special, but will work ok depending on your usage..

I have Weinmann rims on Quando hubs on my commuter bike. I'm guessing you're probably looking at the exact same set. They're not the lighest, but they're a good solid wheel.

They're alright. I have them on the knockabout bike where they do a decent job for a budget hub.

In my experience the bearings last longer if they are stripped, regreased and properly adjusted from new. The factory apparently doesn't spend time getting the adjustment right and the amount of grease in the bearings is variable.

100% agree. I brought a pair for my hybrid, the bearings were a bit tight IMO and not smooth. Stripped, adjusted and greased, never touched them since, no problems for what they cost.

Better option to use some of the lower end Shimano hubs - the Quando are bottom of the range and not well engineered

Of course better is available but for a functional bike these are fine - just one thing. They all seem to have over-tightened bearings and not enough grease from the factory.

Strip them, pack them with grease, ideally fit loose bearings in replacement of the caged ones and adjust properly and they'll run for years.

I'm running quando hubs on some new wheels for my weekend/best bike. Done a few thousand miles and no complaints whatsoever, they seem perfectly good to me.

@tyred's advice is right on the money though, mine were tight and dry as supplied but it's an easy job to grease and set up the cups/cones properly. Even if it's your first time doing this there's not much that can go wrong - just tighten the cup and locknut until you *just* take up all the play in the rim when the wheel is in the bike frame (and remember that when you tighten the wheel into the frame with your Q/R skewer or axle nuts the hub will usually tighten up a touch).
