Hello. I've installed a set of quad dime pro disk brakes ages ago on my mountain bike. Due to an injury i was unable to make use of them until now but now i've lost the instructions. The brakes engage but one you have to depress the lever way to far for my liking, the other is better but how do i adhust the tension on them? I've never set up hydraulic disk brakes before.
thank you.

You cannot adjust the tension on a hydraulic brake - they are self-adjusting! If they have just sat there for ages then this may well be the problem. Air may have accumulated over time especially as they are DOT fluid based - DOT fluid loves water and of course there is air in water. So they may need bleeding now.

thanks gents. the bleeding kit comes with dot 4 and dot 5.1. what's the difference and does it matter which i use as i have no idea what fluid is in there already
also can you collect and reuse the fluid that's in there already?

The difference between dots is just minimum (wet and dry) boiling points, with dot 5.1 being the higher of the 2... however just to confuse as it's a minimum there are some dot 4 fluids that some surpass dot 5.1. Unless you're doing nutter mammoth downhill runs dot 4 is more than sufficient.

And never reuse old fluid: as said above dot fluid by design absorbs water over time and that's what causes problems.

Some of the Quad levers have a reach adjustment button on the lever which can adjust the reach and some also have an adjuster on the caliper that brings the pads in or out a little way. Worth knowing - but I would also guess that bleeding is required.

Pity you can't heat old fluid up to get it to release othe oxygen but i'd wager it catches fire. ;) I found a little wheel that you can adjust near the lever. it seems to adjust lever tension like mrandmrspoves said. i'll take if ro a local spin off road and see how it copes. I'll probably bleed it out anyway as it has been stood a while.

The little wheel on the lever just moves the lever in or out so you can fine tune the position according to whether you have long fingers or short fat stubby ones like mine. It doesn't alter the function of the brakes in any other way. If you have the small rotating adjusting tag on the rear caliper, that does alter the brake function by moving the pads.nearer to the disc

well the wheel in the lever itself will be useful. i have cjubby fingers. as for the another, yes i know what you are refferring to. my mechanical disk brakes had them. these just a bif star shaped indent in the like a large torx bit but nothing else.
