Hi all,

I removed my rear wheel/tyre at the weekend to clean the bike. When re fitting I also adjusted the rear breaks etc. I noticed today while riding that the wheel is off centre towards the side that does not have the cassette. Its not catching or rubbing on the frame and I can get my little finger between the wheel and frame but on the other side the gap is bigger.

Whats the trick to getting a QR rear wheel central to the frame while adjusting the breaks etc.

pull it slightly off centre so when the qr tightens it centres the wheel.

Or.......... (assuming vertical dropouts) just undo the QR and put some weight on the back end of the bike, it will seat itself right, re-do the QR. If it doesn't sit right when the wheel is in the dropouts right, then your frame is to fault.

What type of dropout does the wheel lock into? if it's a vertical one like this then it should center itself. Try a few times, taking the wheel out and then putting it back in. If that does not solve it your wheel maybe 'undished', meaning the spokes are too loose on one side, hence the rim sits off center.

To get my wheels lined up right I loosen the QR, insert the wheel, pull the brake and whilst holding the brake close the QR. Since I started this process I've never had brake/rim rub. Putting the bike upside down is frowned on in certain circles but like SsL says it also helps .

I'm disappointed it took the third post after mine for someone to point that out ^_^

Not with aligning the wheel it doesn't! Gravity is your friend here!

Bikes upside down. OMG ! :ninja:

If the wheel is off centre, then you've not shoved it in right ! Otherwise, like has been said, your frame is out of true ! The only frames where you have to think about alignment are fixed/single speeds !

I have no problem turning my bikes upside down, if it helps me do a particular maintenance task. Why do some people get upset about it? I'm not trying to be rude, by the way, just don't see what the fuss is about.
