I'm trying to convert the front wheel on a bike to be quick release. I bought a skewer, hollow axle and bearing grease from my LBS. The problem is that I'm convinced the skewer is too short for the axle (or the axle's too long for the skewer). With the non-lever end of the skewer undone, the skewer isn't long enough to protrude all the way through the axle.
The LBS is closed today so I can't ask them. Is it normal to have to cut the axle length down with a hacksaw, or do the axles/skewers come in different lengths and I've been sold a mis-matched pair?
