Putting together a college cycling team?

My college has a handfull of us keen cyclists, so I might approach the staff with a proposal to make a team to represent the college.

Of course if I just pitch up and say this, I will get a Dragons Den "what do you mean you have no product" moment.

So what problems could this face when setting the team up, is it easy to make a team and be affiliated with BCF etc?

Fingers crossed this would also produce a keener interest in cycling to commute etc.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Before setting up a racing team, it would be better to establish a bicycle user group to realise your last comment - I personally don't think a team would inspire people to get on their bikes and commute as they'll think of shaved legs and lycra. BUGs are good at providing a voice for sustainable travel and co-ordinating events and bike security/infrastructure.

Costs of setting up a "team" would be mainly BC/CTT registration, then kit etc...If you go the sponsored route it costs a lot more.

I'm not sure on what the definition of colleges is, but there may also be a route to join BUCS. If the college is registered it might be do-able by liaising with the AU/sport committee to see if they can support another sport. If there isn't such an organisation, it would be too much hassle IMO. At the moment I'm not sure there are any colleges participating in BUCS cycling...tend to get no more than 25 universities turning up anyway.

Hmmm well my college is crazy enough to have a Ski team - so I was kind of hoping that a cycling team would be a doddle.

How do you mean by going the sponsored route - the college supplying bikes etc?
