I got around to putting the new bars (nitto noodles) on my pompino this afternoon. I was a little apprehensive about the bar tape so I read 3 different sets of instructions, read mickle's advice from here on the forum and then very slowly and carefully started the job.

The first side went okay but I thought I was making a right pig's ear of the 2nd side... but it all turned out okay and looks good enough. It wasn't as difficult as I was fearing.

The odd thing was that I thought I'd have loads of tape. They are only 40cm bars and there should have been enough tape for bigger bars. I only overlapped around a third, though I had considered making it more. Just as well I didn't because I only just had enough, I could have even done with a couple of cm more. Still, all done, looks okay and it wasn't too difficult.

I've done a couple of sets now - Fizik tape is good for length, I find - I could have wrapped my bars right to the clamp if I'd wanted too. 'Course, it's a bugger if someone runs into the back of you a month later, sending the bike across the tarmac and ruining your work... :/

I wrapped my first bars a few months back, I had plenty of tape length wise (I've only 40cm bars too); what I did find hard was getting the bar end cap to stay in at first. I did need to tighten the tape after a few rides as a gap appeared one segment on each side but after that it seems to have been fine. And I decided to recable my brakes which gave me more practice. I followed the bike tutor's guide and a few books.

argghh - i hate that job, I need to make a bout 3 or 4 attempts until it is nicely wrapped with just a couple of cm left spare.

Only the once for me - unwrap back to the hood and rewrap. I honestly thought I'd have loads left.
