Hi, after a miserable day stopping and fixing punctures until finally giving up and phoning the wife to pick me up Ive decided that my continental sport tyres need to be retired for something with improved puncture protection.

Ive read that gatorskins are good but quite expensive, Ive found these on ebay but not having bought tyres before I'm looking for some advice, are these suitable for what I'm after? My bike is a carrera vanquish

thanks in advance

There will be several votes for Bontranger Hardcases. They can oft be found for about £12 each, I'm about to invest in a pair.

Hi,

Schwalbe's budget tyres nowadays are really good IMO, minimum 50 casing
tpi, minimum of Kevlarguard puncture protection, and not pricey at all.

I'd much rather fit a pair of these for £23 delivered :
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/schwalbe-hs180-rigid-tyre-700-x-25-(25-622)-prod22903/
Than those ebay no name tyre for £29.

However this place :

Really don't know the inplication of using generic to describe some of there decent tyres :

Could go pretty cheap for new front / rear specific tyres with puncture protection and two new tubes.

rgds, sreten.

David your fairly local to me,

I have 2 schwalbe lugano, black for £20

There brand new. Ive used them for over 12 months (red ones) never had a puncture that wasnt a result of a pot hole (ironically in widnes)

If you want them in a colour let me know and I will pick some up still £20 a pair

Another vote for Bontragers.

I tried Gatorskins but in comparison I found them to be absolutely dreadful. I don't know how they tested them, but clearly not with anything you're likely to find on London roads.

Years ago I used to use Armadillos. Very good, but quite heavy really.
