Hi All
I have a Halfords puncture repair kit on the bike. It contains plastic tyre levers. Are these up to the job??? hate to be stuck in the sticks looking at a broken tyre lever

Yes, but I have snapped one in the past. Always carry 3 tyre leavers with you.

Cheers Keith

You may not even need them at all. MTB tyres tend to just fall off the rim once deflated. My Hybrid is fairly easy as it has 35c tyres on 700c MTB type rims. Yesterday I fitted new tyres on my roadbike, 23c Vittoria Zaffiros swapped like for like then put the old, part worn Zaffiros on to my sons road bike to replace the perished/cracked Kenda 23c tyres he had. All done without tyre levers :training:. Having said that, I do have a set of plastic tyre levers stashed in my roadbike tool kit but I would have to be tired, cold and wet before I would resort to using them. Nothing wrong with plastic levers as long as they are used properly and are of reasonable quality. In fact, plastic is preferable to metal as it avoids rim damage from ham fisted use.

I prefer plastic as I think it gives me more of a "feel" but I have broken a couple. In regard to being stuck in the sticks, I would seriously recommend that you have a go at getting the tyre off and on at home (in the warm) and see how easy you find it. Even my MTB (where the tyres come off/on easily) was no fun in inches of mud and water earlier this year.

Plastic do break occasionally but I find carrying a couple of spares preferable to possibly gouging the rim with a metal one.......

If you are going for plastic tyre levers then get the blue Park Tools one... they are indestructible.
