A punture on the back tyre is something l have'nt had to do yet, as since l have taken up cycling all my puncture's have been on the front and l have been lucky enough to limp home before changing or repairing the tube.. But l find it daunting knowing one day l will be miles away from home and get a flat on the back tyre..
What worry's me having to take the chain off and if l disturb the Derailleur gears, how do you go about repairing a puncture on the back wheel..

Just remember small front cog and small rear cog, and practice at home.
I also carry latex gloves and baby wipes just in case, do not mind getting my hands dirty just not my bike or my clothing.
One day may never happen so no point worrying about it too much. When I am going out into the countryside, I remember to check I have two spare tubes, some repair kits, 3 levers and pump.

yup, as BSRU said, have a practice at home.
There are also loads of instructional You Tube vids that go through the process.

This one I just picked out of many.

+1 for practice at home, and the latex gloves, always have a couple of pairs in my saddle bag for this kind of thing.
Depending on the bike I would unhook the brakes(v-brakes) put chain onto smallest rear cog, turn bike upside down and remove wheel.
It only takes a few seconds more for a rear tube swap than a front one

Sometimes you can repair them with the wheel on...
I'd inflate the tyre quickly and see if i can hear roughly where the puncture is. Once identified, rotate that area to 4 or 6 oclock and if you're lucky you can get enough tyre off, pull the innertube out and hopefully get enough to work on.
Its a bit hit and miss...harder nowadays with tight tyres, impossible with some combos, but...

If you only intend to fix the inner tube and then refit you can do this without removing the wheel. Just remove one side of the tyre (preferably not the chain side), slip the innertube out and work on it while it is still looped through the frame. I have done this when out with the kids as I don't carry a spare 14" inner tube or a spanner to fit the nutted axles.

EDIT: Doh, cross posted with gbb. don't try working on the tube while it is still partially in the tyre. Pull the whole thing out so you are not fiddling around trying to perform key hole surgery and risking damage to the tube in other places.

Just don't tip the bike upside down - shouts noob ! Practice it, two second job. Drop chain to one of the smaller sprockets, I prefer last but one (remember which though as you'll get all confused as to why the wheel won't go on easy if you forget).

Undo brakes if needed, flip QR lever, flip mech back with your hand, then push out axel with thumbs. Wheel drops out, wiggle cassette past the chain and done. Refit the same way. Pulling the mech back really helps.

You'll soon be able to apply for a pro mechanics job in the Tour !

Or someone who does not want to risk damaging the rear mech when its resting on the ground......

Noob means newbie(New at something), mainly used in online gaming when someone does something stupid like someone first playing the game would do.
Newb = newbie/beginner
N00b= should know better, idiot etc etcA noob or n00b is someone that lacks intellegance or common sense, most people think that noob is a word used only in the online gaming world, but in reality it is becoming an ever popular word with teenage society.

If you have a computer on your bars check that it wont scrape on the road before upending the bike. When the plastic face gets scratched through rubbing on the ground it is very annoying. I speak from experience
