Hi, I have a 29 inch wheel Mountain Bike...

The valve is a schrader value.
I'm using an older style pump with the little tube that screws onto the innertube valve on one end, and pump on the other end.

The problem is, when I screw the tube onto the innertube value (all the way down), it still keeps leaking air.
Normally it leaks for a couple of seconds while you are screwing it down, but mine just leaks till it goes flat after putting the tube on, so I can't get a decent pressure in their (unless I use the air compressor).

I've tried the newer type pumps that just clip on to the valve, but I've never had much luck with them,

Any thoughts about what I can do here, thanks.

Ask a shop or a knowledgeable local cyclists to show you how to use it. I have never come across the problems you have going on there.

It is possible that an O-ring inside the tube connector has fallen out or something, but I've not seen that happen for years. It's pretty rare.

I still use pumps that have hoses. If you switch to a no-hose pump, take care not to rub the valve back and forth.

.

Replacement hoses available for a couple of quid from a decent bike shop.

While you are in, it would be a good idea to buy a track pump.

You need to shift a fair bit of air to inflate your 29er tyres, and a track pump should have a pressure gauge.

The gauge will allow you to try different pressures to tune your ride, as well as giving you confidence each tyre is properly inflated.

what pump are you using ?

I'm not sure, its just a cheap basic long pump, and you just pull it out and push it in to pump the air in.
I think I tried 2 tubes (that attach to pump, not 2 innertubes) if I recall, and had same problem.

And I think the problem is with both front and back wheel.

Thanks, but I have an air compressor at home that tells me the pressure (I have 65 psi in each tyre).
I was just after a good pump for when I'm out, I don't wanna buy something that lets all the air out when I put it on.
I have a spair 29" innertube, so I can use that for testing as well I guess.
