Hi everyone,

I recently purchased this pump from halfords for my giant defy road bike and I can't seem to get it working. It is like the end bit is sticking out and i can't get it into the valve. I was wondering if it is compatable?

Take it back.... Buy a pump that is single type for your valve type.. dual purpose ones are pretty much useless imo...

I assume the Defy has Presta valves....the pump is dual purpose, it will inflate Presta and Schraeder.
It sounds as though its set for schraeder. In the instructions, it should tell you how to set it for Presta. (basically, you undo the nut and reverse the rubber bush...and maybe take out the nozzle..that i assume is 'sticking out'...depends on the specific pump.

I have a Zefal dual purpose pump....its fine when set to the right valve. Perhaps as Spartacus says, change it for a dedicated pump.
Either way, i'm sure even the guys at Halfords will sort you.

Thank you for the advice. The pump now works fine. It works quite well and is a nice small size, so handy for punctures to get you home. The instructions that I received with the pump were very basic, on the back of a bit cardboard.
