Ha!

My new (and first) PowerTap wheel also arrives tomorrow - G3 built into an Archetype with CX Ray spokes by Strada Wheels.

Looking forward to it and hope it helps guide some structure into my training this winter.

Oh that's totally the best option, until you figure what you want, it will really help formulate your thinking.

32H is the way to go, the PT hubs tend to be a bit unstable in lesser spoke counts.

Yeah - I'm a bit worried, as it is. If I ping a spoke, I am assuming it will be covered under CPM.com's warranty or it could be an option to just get it fixed local (or by myself), to save the hassle of having to ship a wheel back and forth...

I was very tempted to buy a Stages 105 crank but went for PT wheel rental foir two reasons:
1. Not certain that I can justify shelling 600 notes on something that I have not tried.
2. Stages cranks are out of stock everywhere (in 172.5, anyway).

PT is way better than Stages anyway...
If I was in a buying situation again, I'd be choosing between PT and P2M. I wouldn't even consider Stages or Garmin yet. But with the price of PT being as it is, I am fairly sure I'd get that again.

Good to know. I like the way that I'll be able to use the PT on my carbon machine as well as the day to day alu bike. The carbon has a BB30 carbon chainset and getting Stages would have restricted me to only using it on the dirty bike.

Ok, so I just did the 2x8 mins FTP test on Trainer Road. I had originally put in a slightly cautious estimate of 250 Watts FTP, upon signup and filling in my profile.
After the test, sure enough the software suggested adjusting it to 268 but this is a bit lower then 95% of the power I averaged during both of the 8 min efforts. If I take that figure it comes out at 281.x which is more in line with what I had previously taken an educated guess at my FTB being.

Any idea why TR would suggest 268 and not 281 and which do you think I should set my profile to? BTW - yes I downloaded the book and am on chapter 3, thus far

The 95% estimate is for an all out 20min effort, not an 8min effort. IMO 8min intervals are a strange way to test FTP. Can you do 2x20min at 281W?

Btw what head unit are you using and are you manually zeroing the PT before and during your turbo sessions? This is important if you want good, repeatable data.

Well, I plan on doing the 20 min ftp test next week and wondered if the reason would be down to shorter efforts.

Using an Edge705 that I was calibrating before and twice during, following the method you yourself prescribed to somebody on yacf last year (I googled how to zero it earlier today and found a thread there).

Cheers

From what I read on trainerroad, they take 90% for the 8min tests and 95% for the 20min test to estimate your ftp...
