Anyone else get a nasty cold feeling when you saw him hit the ice? The jacket seems like a good idea to me.

heard on the radio that motorcyclists make up 1% of road users but account for 20% of road deaths. Never been on a motor bike in my life and have no interest in them but surely this is a good thing!

Anyone who doesn't is sniffing glue!

what if he crashes near some trees, and he gets catapulted into one and lands on a twig which causes it to pop? The explosion could blow him back into the road and into the path of a car, or worse, the other way, further into the field and into the path of a combine harvester.

What if loads of motorbikers were crammed into a lift at once and a mischevious child surreptitiously gathered up all the cords and pulled them all at once?

 Brilliant. Even funnier if all the cords accidentally got caught in the lift doors as it ascended.

You'd need somebody with a pin to get them out.

This was first thought of in the late 80's early 90's I think. It has taken long enough to reach the news.

My bike gear is armoured and padded to protect me already. I have knee, elbow and hip protection and a armour over my back and ribs and I wear leather and synthetic to protect from road rash. I also have armoured boots with shin protection and the best helmet I could afford.

I think it is a good idea to have air bag clothing but it is only useful if it is worn. The kid on the vid was wearing jeans and trainers, not surprised he broke his pelvis. I see many people of all ages on motorbikes wearing only the helmet for protection.

What's a good thing, motorcyclists making up 20% of road deaths?

I'd never wear one, it's so uncool and surely that is what matters? I do, on occasions, wear a leather jacket, a la Fonz, but not one with armour, that would to spoil the hang lines.

I wear gloves, comfortable suede boots, Levi jeans or cords (depends if I am riding the bike or scooter) and sometimes a leather fashion jacket, but never leather on the Vespa. A nice summer day might well see me in t-shirt and shorts.
