we received a text message, allegedly from Evri saying they tried to deliver a parcel on Friday but we weren’t in, so click on the link to rearrange delivery, we have nothing due from Evri to be delivered, a quick web search shows this to be a scam, where the link takes you to a website made to look like a real Evri site, that will try to get your payment details, especially liable to be effective at this time of year as people will be ordering lots of thing for Xmas.

I got one.
The SMS is in Evri standard wording “ we tried to unsuccessfully deliver your parcel on xx day and xx time, to rearrange delivery go to xxx link (looks like Evri - masked url). It also from a SMS that masks at the genuine Evri number!

Secondly it was a really convincing fake website, first of all it mimics the Evri website very very well, using their logo and colour themes etc and links to their website in certain parts of the site. The give away is that it first asks for you to confirm the delivery post code rather than entering the tracking number which is wrong.

As part of my standard doubles defence I always enter my email and mobile number and I know the genuine Evri notifies both so I knew it was a fake.

Now the scammers have your email linked to your mobile.

No they don't. They send the scam SMS to millions of random numbers hoping they will get a hit from some. They don't have your phone number or email.

Really? Biking Dad just said he gave them his email or did you not read that bit?

I don't think he meant to the scammers, I think he meant he does that when he buys something. He will then get both an email and SMS notification of impending delivery, and thus a random SMS with no concurrent email will alert him its a bit fishy.
