If you caught a car when you were weaving through traffic, would you stop?

yes, any damaged caused is more than likely your fault and you should offer to pay for it.

I keep reading on other forums about how cyclists should have compulsory insurance in the event they cause damage. Cyclists not stopping when they know they've done so just adds weight to that argument. Yes, I'd stop.

Deffo stop. If it was a quick clip of a mirror, and NO DAMAGE, then put hand up, and apologise.

I recently hit two cars (at the same time) - clipped a pot hole, got thrown sideways, clipped a wing mirror, just avoided bonnet surfing, then crashed straight into a taxi's boot, and put a helmet shaped dent in it.

Moved out of way, and first apologised to the guy I first clipped - he said 'OK' and put hand up, then the taxi driver got out and asked was I OK. I apologised and explained what had happened, and gave him my details (I also told him I was insured). He said it should pop out, and hasn't phoned me back since it happened in early July.

Sh1t happens. I believe in Khama to some extent - do unto others etc.

PS If you ride a bike regularly, get insurance from the CTC or British Cycling. Normal CTC or BC Silver is £36, but you can get it discounted to £12 through a commuter policy.

Don't forget, wing mirrors aren't cheap - snap an electric/heated/body coloured one off then you are looking at about £400 plus !

Define bumped? I've caught wing mirrors with my elbow and not stopped, same for nudging tyres against bumpers. But if I'd caused some damage I'd stop even though I don't carry third party insurance.

I'd like to think I'd stop and do the decent thing, but what prompted my thinking was a taxi driver that pulled very tight to my side when I'd stopped at traffic lights. His action was deliberate, so I deliberately moved in front of him (non-asl) as I didn't feel safe being where I was given what I knew of his driving and his position meant letting him go would have been risky too.

It's not normally an issue as I'd normally be further out, but I'd heard him coming up fast so stayed closer to the curb as I couldn't be sure he'd left time to stop.

I did consider, 'wobbling' as I set off to the front and readjusting his mirror or worse, but couldn't be bothered with the hassle. He still cut close to get past, but then he got stuck in traffic, so I took mild pleasure in slowly filtering past with a cosy grin. His passengers must have thought he was a right nobhead, and it certainly showed the benefit of cycle of cab even on a quiet weekend morning.

does not the personal liability section in your home contentspolicy pick up third party damage whilst on your bike? i thought it did .

Mebbe, but there will be a policy excess and potential increased premium.

CTC membership is a better option
