I'm considering sorting this machine out as my winter/commuter bike, I would probably tow a trailer with it sometimes.

I want to convert to drops, so thinking of moving my handle bar a stem (I know I need an aheadset adapter) and all the 10 speed 105/tiagra mix triple from my good bike (2013 Roubaix) to this bike after a shot blast and enamelling job (£70). The Roubaix would get a new 11 speed double 105 group set.

I would use the wheels that came with the Splesh originally.

Could I fit the Caliper brakes to the steel frame? would I need to do anything to the 105 brifters to operate the fitted or new cantilever brakes.

Would the hollow tech BB fit this bike?

Any other issues? Is it worth considering? I'm probably looking at £500-600 but most of that ends up on the good bike. I'm sentimental about the steel frame, i had it since I was 13 (i did eventually grow into it, just!). But is it really just scrap?

Frame is definitely not scrap and worth of keeping.

I would consider hollowtech BB inferior to a square taper in terms of durability but maybe that's just me.

You could fit calliper brakes but unless you are fitting 700c wheels I don't think it would make sense as you'd need really long reach brakes and would end up with worse brakes.

Looks good , a good framebuilder should be able to add required mounting points and or make required adjustments for disc's brakes.

It would be easier to fir a good set of more modern canti's and pads to improve braking and far cheaper

bike looks ideal

Thanks, some options on the brakes then, won't be going for disks, that's over complicating it, probably look at the mini v's.

Striped it down last night. All came apart quickly.

Definitely keep it!!!!
I had the same frame I pulled from a skip nearly 10 years ago hanging in my garage (I stripped it and kept the parts that were OK .... not much!) and have just had it restored- Powder coated Azure blue for my son with new cheap 8spd drive train (Claris IIRC) a decent pair of wheels I had spare and a few bits from my spares bin and straight bars.... and now I wish I'd kept it for myself, it rides an absolute treat, a perfect blend of stiffness and comfort. It's worth spending money on IMO. The brakes are fine too and they are originals with new pads.

Azure blue, snap! That's the most likely colour with either white or red trim items. Metallic is £10 extra for the lacquer.
