Just got back from my ride did just over ten miles with plenty of hills in so I'm happy with that as due to Xmas and weather if not been out much, only worry is I am really struggling with hills not sure if it's fitness or wrong gear selection. Anyway happy again to be out and about and off work this week so aim to get out more

Just got back from a 30 miler .... I have put on some winter blubber (6 lbs) and lost some fitness.
Worry not .... It will get easier. By June/July you will look back on 10 miles as a warm up

You are probably out of condition after being off the bike. Just keep at it. It just takes time and regular riding. I'm going through a similar process at the moment. The more we get out the easier it will become.
You've made a start that's the main thing. By the time the nicer weather comes you'll be well on your way to fitness.
I wish you well.

How heavy are you?
I have started to do club rides and am fine for most of the ride but also struggle on the hills, still better than some but other leave me for dead!
I feel that I am now very fit so I think the main reason that I am slower is my weight (just under 14st)
I guess at 43 I will be slower than some of the youngsters but I still feel my weight is the issue.

Didn't ride for a month so am feeling those hills as well...consolation is I rememeber how fit I felt before it and know that I can get back to it...you can too...just keep pushing!

I'm just a tad under 6ft, think I'm starting to shrink.
Not sure there is a right or wrong weight but the simple fact with cycling is the lighter you are the easier it is to climb hills.
Most top pro's are around the 10 stone mark:wacko:

Weight definately plays a part. I go riding with a friend who has maintained a steady 12st since September last year. I on the other hand was down to 13st 3lb before xmas, and currently tip the scales at 13st 10lbs
I have been out on the hybrid when the weather has permitted, but nowhere as often as i would have liked ......
My whippet friend leaves me on long steady climbs, but i stay with him on the flats .... Can't wait until the scales say 13st again !!!
