OK - here's why I prefer to cycle everywhere I can. I recently had to change the battery in my immobilizer key. Simple I thought. a simple google brought this up:
CENTRAL DOOR LOCK with DEADLOCKING (2 BUTTON PLIP KEY)
1. Ensure all doors are unlocked using the key.
2. Press and HOLD the large plip key button while the LED flashes continuously for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds press the small deadlock button once while still holding the large button.
3. The LED will stop flashing.
4. Release the large button and the LED will light constantly.
5. Press the large button once and the LED will go out.
6. Open the door and hold the Plip key near the Ignition switch and press the large plip button once.
7. Turn the ignition ON, wait 10 seconds and then turn the ignition OFF.
8. After 5 seconds the Plip should now operate
But what LED where? There's no LED on the key on the dashboard anywhere - I don't know what they mean.
Car will drive but remote locking is not working. I could put up with locking manually, but the damn boot is stuck locked.
Damn cars. At least with a cycle you can usually see what's broke!
Any ideas much appreciated. I'll be able to buy a decent bike with the repair bill I'll get for this I'm sure.

Maybe you've downloaded the instructions for the wrong key. I have a Peugeot too, a 306, and its key looks like this. It has an LED in the corner of the key fob. Maybe yours is different.

sounds like you've got the instructions for a different key fob. There's six or seven for my car, took a while to find the right one. It's not in your car manual?

We've got a 306 nad the same key, and our central locking stopped working ages ago. Having said that, we never lock the car anyway. Ever.

Tip. If you've exhausted other possibilities (i.e. flat battery in key fob ), check the bundle of wires leading from the bulkhead into the driver's door. If any of those are broken or shorting, that could stop the central locking working - apart from other problems like windows not winding. At least, that's what happened to us, and we were told it was quite a common occurrence with older cars. I suppose it could also happen on the passenger side, but those wires don't get flexed so much.

My wife has a 206 there is an led on the key fob but as Pete says if the battery is drained it won't light up and the remote central locking will not work.

You need the manual issued with your car. The 306 was in production for around 10 years so there will be more than one variant of key, in car receiver and LED placing.

I have a Citroen Xantia of (presumably) similar vintage. Amazingly both plips till work on their original batteries. Cannot decide whether to tackle replacement now or hope they last the car's lifetime.

Plip? yes, plip!!

I have tried the key with a new battery and configured it to the car using the manual but no joy, so I guess its a trip back to the garage and more money thrown after bad. I wouldn't bother but the boot won't open and I need the boot to put bags of manure in!

Oh if everyone rode bikes ...
