I have a 2010 Specialized Secteur,After about 12 months I started getting a nasty squeak coming from what i belived to be the bottom bracket area. Not really knowing how to strip it off the bike I had it checked at On Your Bike in Birmingham,I was told it was taken off the bike,re greased and put back on the bike.

All was good for about 6 months and then the noise came back,I bought the tool to remove it myself, found a good video on the net explaining how to remove,re grease and fit back to the bike.

That Sunday on my usual 50/60 mile ride it made the noise a couple of times, the following week it was back to its normal racket. So i decided to buy a new Bottom Bracket from Chain Reaction Cycles. Now i checked up to see what size i would need as there are 2 sizes BSA 68mm and Italian 70mm,and belived i needed the BSA 68mm.

When i came to fit it,the left side would not screw tight to the frame leaving a large gap,not wanting to force it I fitted the old one back on.When i looked at the box i noticed that neither of the sizes had been ticked to indicate the size of the part in the box.I have to get this sorted out with Chain Reaction Cycles.

I also noticed on the instructions it shows two spacers which are to be fitted for the triple chainring ,I have the larger one,I have never seen the smaller one,Was it on when On Your Bike serviced the bottom bracket ? I have no idea

It says that the spacers are included with the groupset,as it was already fitted to the bike i would have never know if it was or not.
So tomorrow morning I shall be out again on the sqeaky bike,Give me a wave if you see me,You will hear me coming for miles !!!
The thing that puzzels me that when the bike is stripped down and the bracket is re fitted the noise is 99% gone for 60 miles or so,but if the bottom bracket was knackered surely the noise would be there all the time,so i now wonder if this missing spacer may be the problem ?

Any help on the matter would be welcomed : )

What does it say on the cups?
1.37 x 24 TPI - British
M36 x 24 TPI - Italian
Did you manage to get the drive side cup installed?
Did you properly clean the threads in the shell?
You should be able to screw them in by hand virtually all the way.
If you can't do that I would worry about cross-threading - take it slow.
With the old cups how do the bearings feel if you stick your fingers in and give them a twiddle?
Does one feel rougher than the other and also compared to the new ones?
It's not unusual for BB noise to appear sometime into a ride as things warm/loosen up.
Dunno about spacers, I only have doubles, but looking at that picture, is the ring pressed in to the inside of the spacer?

It has 1.37 x 24 on the cups,on both the one currently fitted and the new one.The drive side was easy to fit,I was able to screw it to the frame by hand, the left side would not though.I was aware of causing damage to the frame so was not going to force it.
The bearings in the old one seemed fine to be honest, from what i could tell.
There is definitely no ring,i am begining to think this could be the problem,Would it be possible that it wore away and broke off, causing me to take it in to be looked at the first time ?
Its just odd that if i strip it down and re fit it,the noise goes away for a while, but then it returns

Well, if it'll go in at all then you've got the right BB. Definitely, 100%
Italian ones are slightly bigger (70 mm rather than 68mm) and one of the cups is threaded the other way!!
I'd check the threads are clean and greased myself.
