Problems with Cube cx bike tyres

Hi all, :hello:

I m having puncture after puncture after puncture on my Cube Cross Race Disk bike!
Front and back I m getting almost a puncture every time I go on a long ride it's getting very frustrating and expensive.

Firstly I wondered out of interest if any other Cube Cross Race Disk owners have had the same issue.

Secondly the standard tyres on the bike are Schwalbe Rocket Ron Kevlar 33-622, is there a stronger CX tyre on the market that would suit this tyre size?

Thank you

PS Can I use this size inner tube 700x28 to 38c (28x28x622m) for the above tyre???

Are they punctures from things cutting or stabbing through the tyre wall into the inner tube or pinch punctures, usually from taking a big hit on something jagged or blunt?

There maybe something stuck in the puncture proof material, or one of the tyres knobbles, which keeps cutting into you tubes, but may not be obvious unless looked for thoroughly, this can lead to ongoing punctures unless found (I had a piece of flint stuck deep in one of the knobbles of my cx tyres, which was barely visible from either side of the tyre, causing three flats)

That inner tube will be fine for that tyre.

Those Rocket Rons are a very good tyre. I have never had a puncture with mine. As above, check for objects embedded in the tyre (glass, flint). What kind of surfaces do you get punctures on? What tyre pressures do you use?

thank you all, yes turned the tyre inside out and had a good look and could not see anything imbedded in the tyre wall :-(

Also I noticed when I replaced the inner tube, whilst putting it back on the bike that the side wall of the front tyre is a little deformed

I deflated it and reinflated it and it's less deformed but still with a 'wave' on the tyre.

Is this something I should be concerned of?

Hi,

I have the same bike as you and I have 28c spesh tyres on it for most of the time, but when I changed to the Ron's to do a bit of off roading I thought I had the tyre pressure on the rear to low and got a pinch flat, got a new tube and then thought I would pump up the current tube to see where the issue was, well she kept deflating after not being able to find anything. I got the bucket and water out and did a bubble test, could only see an issue from the valve itself.

Fitted it all back and I have not had a problem since, been holding its pressure etc. Might be worth a check if you haven't changed the tube yet.

Oh and what do you think to the bike?

My OH had this problem with his Bianchi road bike front tyre for about two weeks. After swearing/patching, swearing/patching, swearing/patching and changing the tube it was still puncturing. It turned out to be due to his tyre levers that he'd just bought to replace his old lost ones. It seemed it was causing (non-visible) damage each time and as soon as the tyre was reinflated, the hole opened up. He used mine and no further punctures....

Lubricate the tyre beads with talc when you refit to avoid having to use the levers. You should be able to refit with fingers alone if you use talc and have the right technique.

It wasn't the refit part. It was using them just to prise the edge over for removal.

Hi Tom,

I love my Cube cx, even more than my Cube GTC race road bike.
The only think I noticed after coming across a few other cx is that the Cube is quite heavy compared to some others but I personally dont mind because Im finding that working harder on my cx is making me faster on my road.

it's a shame I have to change the tyres as I love their look being blue but cant risk having a puncture every time I go out, especially as am doing the Scotland C2C in September with this bike and I need a reliable set of tyres. I had two people looking at the tyres and they both said there is no damage yet I keep getting puncture after puncture alternating both front and back.

Can you send me a link of the specialized tyres you have put on them? The C2C is part road part off road - what tyres would you recommend?

Thanks
Mimi

thanks Burton, glad to see it's not me then as a lot of people feedback is that the Ron are very good tyres but Ron has not been good to me

Can I please ask, I assume you got the 32" one? As I keep coming up with either the choice of 32 or 35" and not sure which ones to get!

hi all

Personally ive had no real problems with these tires a few punctures one was serveral but as stated i didnt notice something stuck in the tire i use roads and tow paths so this tire is great for both but do notice drag on the roads.

I was hoping fpr some advice as the weather gets better i want to put a slicker tire on for my commute, i want a good tire that wont puncture too much i ride 23miles round trip a day, on my old bike i was using slime inners bit know they are heavy, so its a trade off between the tire or slimes for a less proctective tire

Thanks
