Problem with pedal arm

I have a cannondale bb30 carbon frame with a gpxi crank. My problem is it had spd pedals which I tried to remove today. One came off fine the other seems stuck in the arm and looks to have damaged the thread on the pedal arm. If I can drill the pedal out, is the thread on the arm repairable ? I don't really want to be buying a new crankset.

Thanks
Mike.

I don't know if you cnm get thread inserts like you can for car cylinder heads spark plug threads, maybe ask at your LBS. You may be able to buy a single crank arm, but am not familiar with that make. Sorry can't be more helpful.

Did you know the left hand pedal has a reverse thread? Darned bloody difficult to get off if you didn't.

:-) yeah, it unscrewed to about half way then stuck and you can see the pedals thread is not sat correct in the pedal arm.

I have looked for just a pedal but can't find one would have been easier if the crank would have not been for a BB30 frame as they are quite a few pedal arms for sale just not for that crank.

I might take it into my local bike shop and see of they can repair it.

I striped a thread in a campag crank and had it repaired by the LBS, who fitted a steel threaded insert. However that was in the 80's and long before the "not worth repairing, mate" culture we seem to have today.

So, yes, it can be done. The real question is whether you can find anyone to do it

I know it might sound silly, but if you were able to unscrew the pedal half way, it would in my mind mean that the thread form should have been ok, or how else would you have been able to unscrew it to the half way point, the only thing I can think is that the pedal had been cross threaded when the pedal had been screwed into the crank arm, then the rotation as you unscrewed it had broken the striped thread off and so it had jammed the thread once you got to the halfway point. maybe you should try to screw it back in and then keep gently screwing the pedal back out a few times, it might reform the thread;. as to drilling out the pedal spindle, that might be hard work as good quality pedals have hardened steel spindles, and cheap ones are case hardened which makes drilling hard work in both cases, You should have no problems getting Helix coil inserts to rethread the Crank arm.
