has anyone else noticed that in the past week or so componant prices have rocketed up.?
Just checking out Ribble for a Ultegra cassette which was £29.00 or thereabouts 2 weeks ago it is now £41.00 :laugh:

105 10 speed was around £21.00 it is now £33.00 :ohmy::ohmy::ohmy:

how can they risk this sort of price hike just before Christmas ? presumably prices have gone up sharply at their suppliers in the Far East .

It will be interesting to see how cycle component sales fare in the next 3 months or so

Didn't someone post the other day about 2009 bikes going up steeply in prices :laugh:.

I recently picked up quite a bit of kit from Ribble at 2008 prices and with extra 15% discount - hope you don't hate me too much :laugh:

Price increases have been spoken about for months...

I've been saying for years that this would happen as soon as workers in the Far East wanted the same conditions and pay as we have in the West. And the best of luck to them.

Yes, it seems that most things have gone up recently. A Brooks B17 Special saddle that last Xmas I bought for £32 now is £63 :biggrin: and those prices are across all the websites I normally buy from.

BUT, what really makes me mad is greedy companies that are just trying to make a killing this Xmas with a popular product.... My daughter asked me for a Abba the Film DVD the other day while we were in Sainburys, but we had already paid so I said next time, I did make a mental note of the price thought - £9.99... so yesterday when I remembered it the price was £15.99 at WHSmith - I could not believe my eyes... my daughter said the price was over £14 everywhere :ohmy: - We then when to Argos to buy something else and found the DVD for £9.69 so I got it there..... Back at home I went on Internet to check the price and it seems that everybody is at it, they have put the price up to £15. I just don't believe that this is due to current economical crisis but to pure greed. :blush:

It's the exchange rate. The pound is very low against the major trading currencies like the dollar and the euro. The bright side is that British manufactured goods are cheap for other countries (although the only small problem here is that we don't manufacture very much any more).

Thank heavens I have all the bike bits I need, and just in time - my (entirely unjustified) new bike project is now firmly on the back burner, but my shed-full of old-but-good stuff is presumably gaining in value every day :blush:

On the even brighter side, Belgian beer is still much cheaper in Belgium, and a £9-each-way Norfolk Line ferry fare is the perfect excuse to go and get some :biggrin:

yes its greed and desperation. Retailers know that Christmas takings are going to be well down this year and the sales even worse. Many are facing a very uncertain future in the first half of next year as we all traditionally tighten our belts and zip our wallets to recover from the Christmas madness.

I belive that retailers are ringing the prices ob stuff. Its not difficult these days as prices are published online. Years ago my neighbour was employed by a major supermarket to go round the competitors in the area and log their prices on a handheld data logger .
Then the supermarket would adjust their prices up or down accordingly .
Many retailers will be selling old stock at new prices and so making a huge markup. They'll pay the price next year though when we defer our anual bike upgrades:biggrin:
