PPE

Two examples from our direct experience.
1) A friend working in one of the Cornish hospitals has zero, repeat zero enhanced PPE, in a public-facing role. Just what they'd have normally, for, say, suturing wounds.
2) The ambulance crew who checked us over after the fire on Monday morning had one proper mask and one basic mask between them, plus gloves.
Not working, is it?

And the mask won't help them anyway - that's to prevent the wearer contaminating anyone else, not as PPE.

It's not good at all, but no one saw this coming. I hear from my sources that local plod are fairly well kitted out with proper stuff (proper respiratory that cover the eyes as well) and they reckon they've enough to last the duration. Theres a US airbase on our manor and the whisper is they provided it. Plod also have in house CBRN trainers, so they'll have been trained to safely wear it and remove it without risk of self contamination.

The picture across the county is still not showing the right people have the right kit.
The supply is still an issue in many areas it's true but it's improved. It's taken time to come together but it's slowly working can more be done sure it can.

What I know and see
A few week's ago Mrs 73 had every little basic PPE and only 3 full sets of higher level PPE with strict instructions.
To only be used with confirmed Covid cases though with little info it was hard to know.
With no idea when new kit was coming or a way to ask for more.

The last 2 PHE updates have changed all this and a few days ago it really went up and more supplies keep coming without need to ask.
Full PPE is now worn for everyone she get's called to.
No one can go into custody without a mask (to help cut rate of community transmission due being impossible to practice the 2m rule)
Up until then custody staff had nothing not even for suspected Covid cases.
Now it has been upped they are taking things a bit more serious as before they thought it was a funny when Mrs was having to wear it.

As for Ambos round here all crews are now wearing full hazmat kit for everything.
Which given the calls most get is way too much and not great practically.
Local police are just in normal gloves

The 2 big issues are many may well have the right PPE but think they need more as the PHE info was not as clear as it looked.
Now it's in a simple to see and understand table that's helped a lot.
The other issue is training Mrs 73 is lucky she's trained in all levels and has worn and worked in it. Some she's working with have never got past the basic gloves and Apron. So she's seen same put stuff on / take stuff off in wrong order. You can bet many more all over the county have not been trained either.

The real big area which really needs fixing is social care that's one big ticking time bomb. PPE and the right level kit it the right areas.Need's to get out to them fast.

Dear Aunty Cuch,

Please tell us which country did anything? I'll answer that for you - none.

Indeed, when this kicked off in the news in January, where were your calls to ramp up PPE stocks and training in its safe use? You tell us the warning was there, then why did you not warn us here in CCville?

As well as the covid19 there seems to be a healthy dose of wiseaftertheeventitis, spread by people who themselves actually had no more foresight than anyone else.

Just to cover a couple of points mentioned.

Very early on the Danish government made it clear that they would not tolerate Corona Virus crime, such as theft or fraud and if you were caught you would be going to prison.

There was a shortage of face shields and a company up North said "All you had to do was ask" They knocked out thousands over a weekend.

I am sure there are companies in the UK who can make the basic kit like masks, face shields and protective clothing. But someone needs to approach them.

This will hopefully be a big wake up call for governments and will make them stockpile huge amounts of kit for the next emergency.

I admire you for defending yourself and the establishment but we where warned .
I remember a few weeks ago seeing a scientist / doctor whatever from Italy and the UK . It was prime time tv ( the one show i think ) The Italian had his hands out in despair as his UK equivalent would not listen to what he was saying .
I didnt warn anyone here because i wanted to stock up on beer before everyone else did . My cunning plan worked !

We were warned back in January on here by @cookiemonster and in more detail by @greenmark per his remarks below 👇. I think the only thing he missed was the run on bog rolls.

My suggestions - be prepared for when this reaches Europe. Right now the one thing you should do is stock up on hand sanitiser.

Once it starts getting into Europe start stocking up on face masks. Then stock up on household essentials such as tinned food. Get into the habit of washing your hands frequently and wash thoroughly for at least 20 seconds each time. Get some surgical face masks if you can - this won't necessarily help you but will reduce you passing it on to others.

You're right we have and they are not been asked just going it.
We got uni labs 3d printing stuff, schools design tech depts making stuff.
School, companies closed at the moment , even TV production companies donating PPE.
over 1000 domestic 3d printer owners making stuff.
Army of home sowers making Scrubs.
Lot's of pulling together happening. Some of it small scale but that enough to keep a local hospice or care hame stocked up.
Some is large scale it all adds up.

It true it's a wake up call but not just for governments but for care provers, care homes and the like. it's not just governments who need to better plan for this type of situation.
