I got over to my friend's house today to find the cooker timer display flashing, which I assume means there was a powercut over night (the same happens to my clock radio). I've just realised that the central heating isn't coming on when I put the temperature up (it's down to 10 overnight, I've been having it up to 18 during the day) - could the powercut have affected the digital thermostat as well? The boiler is ok, it comes on and there is hot water when I run the tap, but it's not coming on and heating the radiators when I turn the temperature up...

It may mean the clock in the timer needs to be reset, and maybe the on/off times too.

hmm, I thought that. But it's not on timer at the moment, it's on manual. I was just told to up the temperature when I wanted it, and put it back down overnight, and it's been fine 'til now...

I have tried looking at the instructions, but they seem to be all about setting various periods and modes, and to be honest made my head spin a bit.

My friend is back this week, and at least there are no sub zero temps forecast, so I can just leave it. But I'm cold!

I would have assumed a battery back-up. ;)

I've got a back boiler with the thermostat controlled via the fire, very archaic. Hopefully someone else will be able to assist.

No, it's not freezing but, agreed, it is still a tad cold.

Good luck.

There is a battery compartment, not sure what it backs up - maybe just the display... (hadn't noticed a low battery symbol at all).

I was about to suggest what Night Train has already suggested. Is there a reset button on the boiler? Does it have electric ignition to get the pilot light on?

Well, the powercut will have reset the timer on the thermostat, so obviously it will think that whatever time it came back on at is midnight. You will have to reset the timer, this is usually done by holding down the 'set' button and scrolling through the various edit modes till the hour is flashing, set it, scroll again to minute, set it, then set, or some variant thereof. Try and find the model number and search for it on the internet, it might yield some instructions, though whether they'll help is another matter.

_Ben_ - if it is set to 'manual' or 'continous' and not 'timed', I wouldn't have thought the timings being out wouldn't matter?

I guess there's no harm in setting the time correctly and see if that brings the heating back to life again...

Pilot light's ok, I can get hot water when I run the hot tap...

Just had a look and the time and day on the digistat are correct. Room temp is displayed at 16, in manual mode I've upped it to 19 and the display shows the little flame that should indicate the boiler is on to raise the temp. But the boiler isn't coming on. Odd...

oh, well, I'll survive. I'm loathe to go mucking about with the settings too much. Not even sure if it has timer periods set.... I was just told to push the buttons for up and down temperature...
