I’m not sure if this has been posted before, but I’ll repeat it just in case.
Had a slight problem unclipping my left foot while out today, which is the normal foot I unclip with while coming to a stop. I had to do an emergency unclipping of the right foot to avoid the dreaded “clipless moment” a few times.
Upon my return home I had a look at the pedals, which are fine and then the shoes, but they also seemed fine and then I noticed a slight difference between the right and left cleat.
What’s happened is the two thread dust caps of the spare cleat holes had worked their way loose completely on the left shoe and only one of them on the right shoe, thus giving me the difficulty in unclipping with that shoe. I’d totally forgotten to use thread lock on these after I’d found the correct cleat position that suited me.
I’m not sure of this has happened to anyone before but it could be a potential danger to the unwary (like myself) so if you use cleats check the spare thread dust caps (if you have them) just in case.
