Where do us cyclists stand regarding potholes? On the way to work this morning i hit a pothole and completely wrecked my front wheel. I took a picture on my phone as evidence but basically had no joy with local council just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

You've really got to be on the lookout for them, especially on a road bike. I've been known to jump the front wheel over a pothole that I've spotted too late, and the back wheel will normally bounce out without much damage.

How bad is the wheel? It might be fixable if it's just out of true.

Hi thanks for the advice. The current policy with Devon county council is that a pothole is anything 40 mm and below in depth it does nt state size of hole just depth. They say they will get a contractor(AMEY) to fill hole in next week. As for the wheel i think a new one is on the cards as this pothole has been reported numerous times .

And car drivers wonder why cyclists ride in the middle of the road.
The kerb side of the road is littered with potholes, rubble and ill-fitted grates.

Apart from cars, potholes are the only thing I hate about cycling.

Is there no official channel speaking on behalf of cyclists everywhere?

If the pothole has been reported you should be able to make a claim against the counsel for the cost of the replacement wheel.

I was riding around the outskirts of manchster toaday, If I had false teeth in they would have rattled out of my out of my mouth on the roads through ashton under lyne, it was so hard just to keep in a straight line, we should have a competition on who can find the worse pothole:bicycle:

I can recommend the main street in Garston, Liverpool as one of the worst that I have cycled along.

It looks like a badly designed patchwork quilt along almost its full length.

Sensibly, you have to cycle down the middle of the road just for your own safety - its that bad.
