I would pig out on a deserved take-out and a pint of beer/glass of red for sure! Well done on completing the event buddy!

drink and food, normally a pint of weak orange squash and a sandwich, normally cold meat, ham corned beef or something similar, I usually can't eat a big meal when I first get in after a long ride. Then a shower and a change of clothes. Then clean and check the bike over.

After a long ride, apart from eating, I have my usual hot shower and when I have finished I turn the water down to its coldest setting and starting from my toes slowly work my way up my legs to the top as they get used to the cold and just stand there spraying cold water over all my muscles and knee's for about 10 minutes. This virtually guarantees to remove all your aches and pains.

I would have a cold bath instead as they recommend but I find that a bit too severe so I find this the best alternative. I believe it was Paula Radcliffe who started this cold bath idea off to aid recovery but I have also read that team Columbia do it also so presume it is a common practice overall.

Ice baths have been used for quite a while from endurance athletes to recover faster. Lately though scientists have questioned this method.
