Apologies I fear this is a stupid question....

Took the stem off for a routine check and looking down the carbon steerer I see lots of sort of carbon shavings and bits that look frayed along the inside of the steerer like when you sharpen a pencil sort of thing but. I would say its quite a way down inline with about the middle of the headtube.

Is this normal, they have always been there as far as I can remember ?.

Thanks

Could be when the steerer was cut ?

What sort of 'bung' was used for the head cap - should be an expanding one for carbon, not a spiked star fangled nut.

Hiya

Yes could have been from when it was cut I suppose and fell down but some it looks like its attached to the inside of the steerer like its not been filed off or milled out correctly. I havent a clue how there made so only surmising but thats just how it looks.

Its quite far down the steerer well into the headtube area so not the exposed part where the stem interfaces with it. The bung is a long expander type that lips over the top of the steerer approximately 4.8cm long so covers entire clamping area and just below.
