BUMP!

Never wanting to let a good thing go I sent a couple of tentative e-mails to some of British companies asking if they would be interested in supplying me with a new cyclocross bike for work....TBH I was being a bit cheeky and never really expected the hoped for positive response.
Well one firm did (Keeping names uner my hat for now). Obviously no one is going to just hand me a new cyclocross bike and say thanks, so now I have to find a way of getting A LOT of "Positive" publicity for the bike, the job and Police cycling in general.
Luckily we have "Brit Cops" filming with us this year, so that is one avenue I can explore.
Does anyone have any contacts with in cycling media, or general health media that may be interested in doing a very pro peice of work on bikes and cops?

Strangley I remember having this converastion with friend a year ago, we were doing some community cycling thing for council and the PCSOs were there on polizei bikes, good bikes but the PCSOs need proper training as they lacked confidence - the PC's won't do bike patrol for some reason.

Judging by the fact that most of them were't capable of doing patrol on anything a bit lumpy we thought that a tourer or a cross bike would be a better tool, that and some training.

I'd patrol on a bike, gladly. Unfortunately I cover a 60 square mile area and the practicalities of using bike just don't add up. Shame really.

@Sparty

I met an American fella who was selling folding MTBs to American Police forces.

They were out of the boot of the car and unfolded in seconds to continue pursuit off-road.

Shotgun holster offered as an optional extra. :wacko:

Something like this...

:biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin: That's brilliant. Just give me the gun though :laugh: , I'd reduce crime in a day, no problem. I actually saw something very similar to this in Evans the other week, same folding mechanism.

You need to stage a "spectacular"

A local PC here chased down a drunk driver over a two mile vehicle chase. Drunk was driving, the PC was on a bike!

Local press loved it and the coverage was excellent.

Failing that I don't know. The Covington Police video looks more like they are having fun than the bikes being a useful tool. The problem is how you tread the fine line... If you promote too heavily on the technical and strategic advantages (faster response times etc) you could be setting targets you may fail to reach.

On a more positive note, you could PM Arch...Velovision has had articles on Paramedics and similar before and this may be an angle they would be interested in. Equally with his experience Peter may be able to give you some advice.
