I saw one of your earlier posts regarding joining a club, what distances are you doing at the moment, overall we probably only average about 15 t0 16 mph over the whole ride (Sundays), but we do be knocking on over 20mph for good distances when the going is good, its just all the little holdups that drop the average. Sunday morning club rides are mixed ability, aged between 20ish up to mid 60's, M and F, with the in between ages the majority, so are just a little more relaxed, or supposed to be. The ride distance is usually between 30 to 50 miles, other days can be a lot more and harder.
The Royal Standard Road Club has quite a lot of members of mixed abilities, all we have is a strip which gets renewed every 2 years, I think, no membership fee's, and we set off every Sunday at 0930 from the conservative club car park in Beverley and back for about 1200 to 1300, then the afternoons spent in the Royal Standard getting waisted watching football or rugby . Some days we can have turnouts of up to 20 riders, but it is a mixed bag as a lot of the riders are Barracuda triathlon but they are also still Royal Standard, confusing.
We also have a slower group that goes out Saturday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday nights when its a bit more lighter, but I've lost track of what they are doing at the moment.
The only problem is, is lack of information of what is happening during the week, as we may also ride Wednesday mornings and Saturday mornings, but as it is a mixed bag of two clubs, Barrracuda and Royal Standard but as the emphasis is on Barracuda, they may be swimming or running. Sundays never change though as a rule, numbers may lack though if people are away participating in an event somewhere that day or weekend.
If you fancy a ride out, just turn up Sunday morning, or just come out for a ride with myself to see how you manage. I'm no fitness fanatic, but its only riding in a group that you find how much you improve quickley. I'm off work all this month, just cycling fishing and gardening so let me know.
From this you can use it as a stepping stone to improve your cycling by joining a more dedicated club once you realise your potential and stop worrying about getting "dropped".
