Question, when the bids were made, did Welcome to Yourshire actually have the money in place to do the job, as apparently Edinburgh did. If they did, how come there is a need for £10 million contribution from central Govt.? I thought bidding cities/regions were supposed to have the money to do it, or is this a spin competition where the WtY bid never had enough cash, couldn't find it, then wins and has to go asking for a bail out? Depends who is spinning best, but surely the head of the WtY bid has some awlward questions to ask, like "why did you bid and (probably) assure ASO that you could fund the job when you could have worked out that you would be short of money?".
All very well papers bleating the PR sent out by WtY, but the facts will eventually emerge.
If I was putting £10 million into a project, I think I would be pretty bullish about having some naming rights too! I just feel sorry for the people in Yorkshire who will end up collecting the bill, one way or another, because somewhere, someone had ambition not matched by their resources.
