Hi

I would like to purchase a hybrid for town and some tow path riding.

I like this Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc and this Giant Escape M1 but I am really stumped at deciding. I like the 700c wheels on the Specialized compared to the 26" on the Giant but I think the Giant brakes may be better than the Tektro ones on the Specialized.

Any comments appreciated.

The link for the Giant shows a 2008 model, I doubt you'll find one of those now
The crosstrail looks nice, but you wont really need front forks for on tow paths & certainly not round town

My advice, as always, is to try them. We can offer pro's and con's on specs all we want, but the bottom line is how it feels to you. For the record, I have a Specialized MTB (an FSR) and a Giant (Defy) road bike and am really happy with both.

One point though, if you like one for the size of the wheels and one for the brakes, I would plump for the one with the wheel size you want as brakes are easily replaced.

I agree with soltydog forget the front suspension it just adds a lot of weight to the bike and aslo cost.

Use the money to get a good rear rack.

I ride over all sorts of terrain with my TREK 7.3FX and it does not have suspension. In fact I sold my last suspended TREK to get this one, just for that reason.

Look at TREK they are a tough, well built bike.
