Hi All
I'm hoping your collective wisdom and advice will help me come to a sensible decision,
Here's my dilemma, I have some collected points which I can redeem in the form of vouchers for various high street retailers one of them is Evans cycles, now being a cyclist I immediately discounted all the other options and thought great, goodies for the bikes but then I start thinking...
I have a Specialized Allez 08 just the base entry bike and its done me well over the past year, I rode a couple of sportives took it to the Alps as well as knocking out loads of pleasant local miles, so I was thinking of changing the wheels to something light and strong for summer use and treating my self to a new saddle and maybe a carbon seatpost.
I could then also use some of the remaining vouchers to give myself cost free maintenance on the other bikes for a fair while and some new clothes shoes etc, Enduro will need a new bottom bracket soon.
But then I start looking at new carbon bikes that I could keep for summer rides and sportives and start to wonder whether putting Fulcrum racing 3's on an Allez is the equivalent to a boy racer doubling the value of his Nova by fitting some huge Oz wheels.
Vouchers to spend approx £1300
So Questions,
1. Is it worth it in terms of increase in performance and enjoyment buying new wheels for an Allez and where would it be pointless in spending more money on wheels £200? £400? (these wheels could also be swapped over to a new frame sometime in the future)
2. If spending £1300 on a carbon bike ( such as http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bianchi/b4p-c-tech-carbon-105-2008-road-bike-ec016051 )
am I just getting into average quality area with heavy groupset wheels etc?
when looking at these bikes they don't seem to be remarkably lighter than my Allez.
3. I have never ridden a carbon bike and to be honest I find my Allez a pleasure to ride, does a carbon bike feel and ride that much better for a guy like me hoping to do probably 3 sportives this year and ride about 2000 miles like I have done last year?
4. Should I blow the £1300 on a carbon frame and fork, swap all my Allez bits over and then upgrade them as I earn more vouchers?
5. Any ideas I've missed? Just to confuse me even more
I'd be grateful for any advice you could offer as I'm starting to get a headache.
Regards
Rich
