Just fitted a new Campag Centaur chainset. Followed all the instructions to the letter, bearing cups fitted perfectly. All tightened up with appropriate torque settings, but there is about 1mm of play in the whole assembly.
What have I done wrong? I can't see anything that I may have missed.

The wavy washer on the non-drive side - are we talking UT here?

Check list

Have you remembered the clip on the drive side?

A quick measure of the BB shell - should be 68mm.

Check that you have UT cups.

Check that the central bolt is tight.

The only other thing it could be is if the bearings have been pushed on too far - they will be very stiff if this is the case.

Thanks, AP.
Clip in place.
Actually the BB shell is nearer 67mm. (is this the key to the problem?)
UT cups they are.
Central bolt is tight and to specified torque.
Again, bearings are to specified torque.

Hi AP, bearings are smooth. I just can't get my head round the fact that the only bearing is on the drive side. Anyhow, I've booked this into a reputable LBS I trust to investigate. Thank you, though!
TGS - what's HT?

Hollotech ii, shimano's 24mm external bb implementation.

Isn't new Centaur Power Torque? (PT) i.e. Campy's half assed hollotech clone. Hense confusion about only one bearing.

Got a spare cassette? Does it have a small sliver spacer that needs to be fitted between the large sprocket and the lhs of the freehub? Take one of those and stick in inbetween the PT cup and the BB shell. That should space the cup out a bit and the play will go.

But good luck getting the crank arm off now if it is PT...

If its power torque the drive side bearing is captive on the spindle and the nds bearing is integral to the bb cup a la gxp / htii / mega exo. From an engineering perspective it's jokes.
