Plastix thing on rear gears

how do

looking for a bit of advice. i want to get rid of the plastic thing which i presume proctects the spokes if the chain comes off.

whats the best way of getting rid of it, ive started by using a small saw but cant saw any further otherwise id be sawing the gears. any tips lads?

Or have you got a decent pair of kitchen scissors, but make sure you clean them well before sneaking them back in :sad:

Those small secateer things(that you cut branches with if i havent spelt it right) will make mince meat of it. I made 3 cuts in it and it was off, easy. Be careful with it though, dont catch the gears. You have to do the cuts from the other side(non gear side of the wheel)

I always remove them to save weight.

Not only do they protect spokes but they stop the chain getting wedge between the spokes and cassette should it over shift - don;t ask how I know that.

Having said that, I still remove them but ensure the shifting is set up correctly.

To remove them, either remove the cassette or break them using any number of tools, like those mentioned.
