That looks like a completely amazing experience. How much of the accommodation do you plan in advance?

well I'm planning on camping across Europe to save money, as the route I'm going to use is a European approved cycle path with camp sites along the way, after that im still working out

I should be in Germany sometime in June so, depending on your speed, I may bump into you...

p.s. the D100 into Istanbul (the usual route taken) is a bit of a pig. This time I'll be using a different route in. From previous experience I suggest either taking a bus into the centre or I've seen a couple of journals recommending this route in for a much more pleasent ride http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4008080

Why not instead of coming back into Europe after Morooco, ride along the northern coast of africa, its interesting, like wise the high altas mountain are brill, but its quite a slog at times. Also the heat can be bad I was cycling between Fez ans meknes and the temp was hitting 46 Deg C, I spent most of one day sitting in a cafe drinking mint tea, until it cooled down.

We looked at driving this route in 2000 (circumnavigation of the Mediterranean).
Not only is the Morocco/Algeria border closed, there is a major problem getting a visa.
Then the next problem is Libya, again border often closed both to Algeria and Egypt, also major problem getting a visa, which depending on current climate may be easy or impossible.

A tip for the German leg of your tour: head east to the Rhine (e.g. at Koblenz) - down the Rhine as far as Mainz - up the main to Wertheim - up the Tauber (part of the Romantische Strasse route) as far as the Danube at Donauwörth and then along the Danube to Passau at the Austrian border, then of course continue along the Danube to Vienna and beyond.

That's a fairly quick way of doing things. If you've got a bit more time and want to see more things then there are a couple of variations on that theme which are easy enough.

Hi I am also planning something similar or though the initial aim is to reach iran and possibly send the bike back in exchange for a back pack and walking boots, although would be really interested to know your plans from there to australia.
In 2009 summer i cycled round France and Spain over 2 months and had an amazing time with very basic gear. I have been doing a fair bit of research and would be keen to exchange any knowledge or ideas.

Also the websites below have been great

Thanks

I know someone who has done England to Australia and after Turkey and the Stans they wound up going through north india and then through tibet, down through bits of china and south east asia (not sure of the geography but that's the way they went). They said not to go down into India because there is no way out across the surrounding sea!

Crankarm mentioned a crazyguy journal by Peter Quaife. I know Peter very well and he did a long ride across tibet about 3 years ago, and also wrote it up in a crazyguy journal so you can look that up too. This is going to sound very random, but about half way through Peter's journal he describes how he meets a guy called Tim. Tim is the guy who I mentioned in the above paragraph, who rode from England to Australia. I know that Tim did an online blog or journal of his trip and that it got hacked, and is now lost. But if you contact Peter through Crazyguy, he will be able to put you in touch with Tim, who I am sure will be more then happy to share any tips he has. Alternatively you can PM me and I will let him know you want to have a chat and see if he consents to me passing you his email addy.

I am not sure whether Peter even has an account on here - if so it will be under the name PQ - but I'm pretty sure he hardly ever comes on. Either way the guy can talk for England and would be more than happy to offer you a few tips and to put you in touch with his friend Tim (I've met him and he's a very nice guy).
