Am having a few issues with Garmins own course creator, and Bikeroutetoaster, so have been using RideWithGPS to plan a New Forest ride. Works fine apart from it putting an average speed of 55 mph in, which I don't think I will be able to compete with!

Are the first two websites acting strange for anyone else? By strange I mean you put down a marker and it refuses to plot a route, or wont simply go the way you want it to. Its getting to the point where I am having to manually click the road each minute step.

Wondering if its something wrong with my pc as cant find any issues on google.

Failing that, any way of fixing an average speed into a tcx file so my Garmin Edge 800 wont expect me to go as fast as my car?

I compose routes in Bikely and move them to my phone as GPX files.

Where is it putting 55 mph in?

I use RWGPS and have not seen a speed icon

When I send it to the Garmin, hit the i icon on the course and it has the silly speed there.

Have tried importing Wiggles own GPX file into Garmin connect and changing name and speed there, then sending to my device. Device just ignores my edited data, keeps original name and keeps original pace (15.5 mph). My course is saved as one thing, another thing gets uploaded... weird.

Have you got follow roads ticked? Or something similar. That could get it to plot the route you want.

I do. The basics of the plotting I have no problems with, in theory, the site just doesnt plot properly for me unless I turn follow roads OFF. Am thinking the issue may be with using OpenStreetMap, just noticed there is a blockage on the road according to OSM, but not on Googlemap

RWGPS is not optimised for the edge series, you can edit the tcx file and change the time it takes to complete the course, I will need to look at the file again, it's in the header.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<TrainingCenterDatabase xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/TrainingCenterDatabase/v2" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/TrainingCenterDatabase/v2 http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/TrainingCenterDatabasev2.xsd">
<Folders/>
<Courses>
<Course>
<Name>mon</Name>
<Lap>
<TotalTimeSeconds>1648</TotalTimeSeconds>
<DistanceMeters>37330.7</DistanceMeters>

the above gives this route of 37.33Km covered in 1648's (27.46mins) about 81Km/h, which is much the same as your getting.
so what you need to do is edit the time in sec's to equal the speed you want which would be 5375's for an average of 25Km/h give or take.

@Nigelnaturist - any idea what would be better for the edge series? Garmin's own offering or bikeroutetoaster? Cheers
I use RWGPS, it gives turn by turn (on the 500 at least), the only problem is it's not optimised, as mentioned above. I did use others but I can't remember how the fully work now, I am sure others will voice an opinion.
I have always found the routes themselves work well, just make sure when you plan the route if your using follow road mode, that it doesn't inadvertently send you up a road like this.
wrong plot.JPG

This usually happens if plotting when zoomed out as you cant always see little errors, if just road riding make sure avoid highways is checked and that it's set to drive, other wise if set in bike mode it will take you along cycle paths (which may or may not be what you want).
