Hi over half term my wife and kids will be away and I have a whole Wednesday to do as I please

I'm hoping the weather will be OK for me to get out and do my 1st 100 mile ride. I wonder if any of the South Somerset, North Dorset and West Wiltshire riders would care to tell me if any of my chosen roads are to be avoided (for whatever reason)

Starting at and finishing at Bike-it in Radstock, Nr Bath BA3 3AA

Radstock A367 to Oakhill
Join A37 to Cannards Grave
Take A371 to Wincanton
Take A357 to Henstridge
Take A30 to Salisbury
Take A360 to Devises
Take A361 Trowbridge
Take A366 to junction A362 back to Radstock.

I've done a Goggle Map, not that I know how to share it mind

Sounds like a good route, wouldn't mind doing a similar one myself in the future. The only bits I would be a little bit worried about are the A30 and the A360 especially - very fast roads with loons that seem to disregard even the village speed limits. I'd be inclined to come off the A30 before Wilton heading to Dinton. Head towards Wylye - amazing views just before you get into Wylye - then staying on minor roads head through Boyton, Corton, Sutton Veny, take a picnic for a stop at Shearwater on Longleat estate. Then back through Frome on the A362 to Radstock. Let us know how you get on!

The A30 is nasty in places, but that section should be fine - in fact it's a lovely bit of road through quiet fields and small settlements. One of my favourites.

I don't tend to ride on many roads starting with an 'A'. But good luck with it, you'll feel great afterwards, make sure you stock the fridge up with a few well earned beers (or your favourite poison).

PS Go to your Google map and click on 'Link' in the top right of the map, simply copy and paste that link here.

Thanks for the input.

I know the 1st half (to Henstridge) very well as a driver and reckon it should be OK, some knowledge of the A30 but up once don't really know the Salisbury to Devises bit hence choosing the direct route but I think I'll try to re-plan off the A roads a wee bit, only been cycling since May so that much A Road might be a wee bit OTT.

I don't like roads that start with an 'A' either and have rarely needed to use one, even for a long ride.

It should be borne in mind that you will get tired and your concentration/mental alertness will be reduced as you get over, say, 75 miles. This is also likely to be the time when people in cars are wanting to hurry home, get back to the office etc, so their concentration may be impaired as well .... = bad recipe ;).

Remember to drink lots, eat plenty, have a good look around, "stop and smell the roses", relax and enjoy it .

Have a good one and Ride Safe .
