I can vouch for Fizik. Mine are toasty.

Can't comment on this specific shoe but I got my first winter boots some years ago (Shimano ones) and boots are a game changer. I now only wear my overshoes when it's seriously cold. I'd recommend winter boots to anyone serious about cycling. I was advised to go a size up from what I'd normally wear to allow for thicker socks. Mine have a velcro and lacing closure system so I'm not sure how a zip would fare against everything nature can throw at it and that would be my main worry. The price seems reasonable.

I’ve got the previous version, they are good but won’t be tight and secure like a racing shoe. Doesn’t matter though as you only pootle in the winter.

There's a very short conversation here and on the next page scattered in amongst the other posts. I've just bought a pair of the road version. I'm a 9 so bought a 43. They fit well but might be a bit snug if you have wide feet?

Reviews seem positive. I went down the Shimano route - one size up. I've got three pairs (two SPD one road) -worth looking on ebay for some lightly used - that's how I got pairs 2 and 3.

What would you say the waterproofing element is like ?

Yeah I got a nice pair of lakes off eBay - I was delighted with them - until I discovered the boa wouldn't release. - useable but a right faff to get on - thankfully seller was decent enough to agree to refund.

If they are only half as good at the Das Boot model that they used to have and no longer make, they will be great. A shame that they are black and not in the ‘daglo cat-sick yellow’ that the Das Boots came in.

I've only had them a few days so not tested in the very wet yet - just general road spray and drizzle. My feet have stayed dry and warm so far.

I imagine that, if there is a weak spot then it will be the zip although it seems quite a fine toothed zip and draws together well but I expect that there will always be a potential for a leak path there. PX don't claim water proof but I'm currently optimistic in expecting "water resistant" and, as there marketing waffle claims, "protection against the elements"!

Perhaps I'll report back when/if I've had a good soaking !

Don't forget there is a big hole in the top where your leg is. If I'm MTB'ing in dreadful conditions, I pop on a dry suit cuff - you can actually get rubber cuffs for winter boots these days - they help keep the wet out.
