Hey guys, I recently wanted to get back to cycling, for both fitness and leisure, and wanted to buy a hybrid bike. My budget is around £300 and I've limited my search to a Pinnacle Lithium 1 2016 and a Carrera Subway 1 2015. I'm just wandering what is the better option at this point? I'm leaning slightly towards the Pinnacle since I do like the lighter bikes, but just wanted some more info from people who might know more than I do!

Go have a ride of the pinnacle, really easy with Evans to test ride and have a sit on the carrera. The carrera does offer the all weather benefit of disc brakes but will add weight

The 700c wheels of the pinnacle are easier to get tyres for versus the 27.5 tyres on the carrera

What surfaces will you be riding on?

Mostly road surfaces, with the occasional ride through the parks of London when I'm with friends. Just the only thing thats putting me off the Pinnacle is the 7 gear speed, but surely that doesn't mean it'll be slower than bikes with more gears?

Not on flat terrain no. Speed mostly comes from the engine, you. Skinnier tyres help a bit

Have you also looked in decathlon?

Makes me lean even more towards the Pinnacle then.
I've had a look at decathlon but there aren't any bikes there that I feel are good (unless I'm wrong) that would suit my budget.
If anyone has any suggestions for alternatives I'd happily check them out as I'm looking to make a purchase over the coming week aanyway.

Doesn't look much different?
Go to Evans today, lovely sunny day, with bank card, photo ID and helmet if you wear one and have some test rides

I own a Lithium 1 2015, which I commute to work on everyday. The problem with this bike is the quality of the components. After just a year I have replaced the free hub, BB and front wheel bearing, chain, chain rings and cassette. The mileage is around 1k for the year. Evans didn't want to know because the bike had just tripped over its first birthday. The only reason I still have it is because I have invested so much cash in repairs and improving the quality, I need to get some value from it.
