Looking for suggestions, never done this sort of thing before. Hopefully the (arty, frosty) pic below sets the scene.
FACTS/REQUIREMENTS:
- the shed and the garage side-door both sit in the awkward acute angle of the garden. A hard space to utilise efficiently (which vexes me)
- shed is about to fall down (possibly in next decent storm)
- the fence at the back has a narrow alleyway running behind purely for access to two neighbours' back gardens (just FYI)
- 'er indoors wants a bigger shed. We'd both like a sheltered area for potting-type activities and/or bike fettling, and a sheltered/rain-proof access to the garage side-door.
- happy to lose a bit of the lawn, but NOT TOO MUCH!
- NOT wanted: feature creep. No BBQ, seating, decking, hot-tubs, pump-tracks ...
- we don't really have decent DIY experience. Would rather spend a little more than risk bodging stuff ourselves. Be kind!
CONJECTURE: we can't build onto the garage without planning permission issues. Nor build anything more substantial than a conventional "shed". Feel free to contradict this!
I WOULD LIKE: to use the space more efficiently. Maybe by joining up the sheltered space? But this is limited by planning permission
OPTION: build a car-port-style (possibly plastic?) roof out of the side-of-garage (attached above the door).
- I'm concerned this may lead to a nasty shanty-town appearance!
- is an "arbor" the more tasteful option?
COSTS: Happy to spend a bit to make it nice (and durable, more importantly). But no plans to go crazy!
PLEASE POST SUGGESTIONs! Ideally with photos of existing happy projects.
PLEASE POST ANY ADVICE: as I don't even know the unknown unknowns.
EDIT: satellite view to show garden shape better (if it wasn't for the rear neighbours' trees obscuring the view!) Shed and side door are in the red area:
