Hi,

Not the most pleasant of topics. I've noticed some bleeding in the night as I've ramped up my cycling. I think it's to do with some small piles that can get aggravated sometimes usually in IBS flare ups. I had some removed 10 years ago and was told there's a few left which are t0o small to be operated on so more of an annoyance than anything else, just feels sore sometimes after cycling but goes away.

Anyway, does anyone else have this issue? Would tilting the front end of my saddle more upwards help so I sit on my seat bones more?

Any advice welcomed?

Cheers

I've only had Nuremburgs the once and Anusol seemed to help fairly well.

No need, it's been diagnosed. I recognize the symptoms which recur quite a bit. I have a private gastro consultant that I see annually for IBS matters. He said that bleeding is when they get 'agitated'. I'm after some saddle advice as spending more time in the saddle which clearly is annoying them now I've ramped up the mileage.

It seemed a bit more discreet than referring to them as bum grapes.

I had this problem for years and just about coped using creams and padded shorts.

A few years ago I lost weight which helped a bit. 80kg down to 72kg.

Then two years ago I had dental surgery and had a couple of weeks on a very limited semi-liquid diet; at the end of that time I was having no problems with piles. The rest seemed to have given them a chance to recover.

Since then I have managed my diet carefully, keeping up fluids and fibre, and keeping down portion sizes. I now cycle without padded shorts and have no trace of former difficulties.

It's worth a try!

Germoloids cream has always worked wonders for me. If you alter the position of your saddle then you may throw up bigger problems than your chaffing anal maltesers. I would actually try inserting something lengthways into my crevice to try and dampen them directly (rather than a much broader cushioning approach like padded shorts). I don't know what would be best, maybe something like a sanitary pad. It might be trial and error, but the action of cycling can't really be modified so you might not get around the problem fully
