I've been looking around for a good headlight for my Raleigh One Way (2009), and I've run across the Philips Saferide Light. Watching videos and reading reviews, I really like this light. I don't believe this headlight is very well known over here in the states, at least I've never seen one on bikes or in shops here. I can find it on Amazon and several other sites over here for a decent price. I like the beam pattern alot, and the shape of it, that I can use standard AA batteries or the rechargeable ones that come with it. Looks like it's built well. I do quite a bit of night riding as I bike commute pretty frequently. Do any of you folks use this light, and how do you like it? Thanks!

I have it. It's excellent, the beam pattern is very good as it lights up both sides of the path as well as straight ahead. It is also designed so as not to dazzle oncoming traffic.

It's very well made but because of this a little heavy. There have been a lot of moaning on the web because of one type of mount (ball and socket) does not hold the light in place, but I have one of these types of mount and another which is a straight clip in and neither of mine have caused the light to move once clipped in. The trick with the ball and socket type is to use a wrench or something to tighten the socket. If you only use your hands it will come loose. Unless you are the Hulk.

I go mine from here:

But shipping to the USA is quite expensive.

Edit: Just had a look at the light on Amazon.com and the mount appears to be the straight clip in one, so you shouldn't have a problem with it. Great price too!

Hey, Thanx Paul, especially the tip about the mount. And I like that the housing is all aluminum, and even if heavier, I like that it seems built right solid. I have a Magicshine on my roadbike, and while that's a good light and crazy bright, I never use the high setting...no need to come down the road at night looking like a supernova...lol. So I think I'll go with the Philips. Glad that it's doing well for you.
