Hi all,

I am new here but have been reading through a few threads. Just thought I would let people know that ATM 21 April 2013 Planet X have reduced their prices on their Phaart lights.

Apologies if already been posted. Anyway, I own a few of these lights and bought them when they were £2.50 and thought that was a bargain - now some of the rear ones - that IMO are excellent at £2.50 and just as bright as Smart / Cateye lights I own but maybe slightly lower finishing - have now been reduced to an unbelievable 99p!

http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/LIPHBSTRL/phaart_booster_05_watt_led_rear_light - 99p

IMO this is as good as my Smart R2 for visibility anyway. Bracket is more or less the same too.

http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/LIPHRMRL/phaart_red_mist_5_led_rear_light - 99p.

As far as I can tell this is a direct Cateye clone. Again very visible. I could only mount horizontal so don't use on bike but chuck it in the mesh pocket on my backpack & has a nice chasing pattern.

Also these at 59p http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/LIPHSOFL/phaart_strap_on_led_light

Have no experience of these but look like Knog copies. Bought a few just to give away as gifts.

Delivery is £2.50 or free on orders over £20. I needed a new chain and they were cheapest I could find for the SRAM 8 speed that I needed. Bought some Ulna gloves at a fiver & 11 bike lights for £22!

I am not affiliated with them in any way. Just want to share these bargain prices as the biggest pet hate I have about other cyclists bar none is people not using lights.

From the gist I get most people on this site seem quite sensible. Unfortunately I am always amazed at people who have £2k + bikes but even 1 light seems to be beneath them. Also people who have all the high viz gear but for some odd reason don't like running a light!

Anyway - hope this helps at least one person

Cheers

That is cheap. I got a couple of the half watt rear lights at £2.50 which although not quite as bright as my Smart half watt rears have been fine and at that price exceptional value.

It is exceptional value but also highly irritating that new bikes have to legally be sold with "reflectors" and a bloo*dy bell!

Whoever passed this legislation is quite frankly, a bell.

Planet X aren't selling these as a "loss leader" - they are making profit on 99p each. In that case the legislation should be changed where new bikes are sold with "half decent" actual lights like these - even the 59p Knog clones would do & manufacturers were forced to provide 3M stickers attached to the seatpost & rear stays - fitted at the buyers will.

Do away with the ridiculous rule about having a bell on a new bike. IMO when I am a pedestrian on a shared path there is nothing ruder than being, "belled". FFS - surely it takes more effort to actually rudely bell than say, "excuse me please" if the pedestrians haven't heard or seen your approach.

I bought one of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=26998 to sound when I am 200 + metres away from someone on a shared path that should at least make them aware that I am there!

TBH I don't think a lot of these dog walkers really care. I go along shared promenades down beaches / parks either side with probably at least 400metres of open space either side, yet they rigidly stick to the 2 metre wide path and let their dogs run wild.

Even better at night, when I am running my lights and they are running their dogs and wearing nothing reflective whatsoever.

** I do not think all dog walkers, pedestrians or motorists are idiots. Unfortunately, in my experience at least 60% are!

And in all honesty from what I witness, unfortunately that same figure of around 60% is the amount of idiot cyclists I see that don't run lights when it's dark or dusk.

From that stellar piece of totally unscientific and personal "evidence" I come to the conclusion that 60% of people are idiots and to proceed with caution at all costs!

Here for rides.
With super cheap lights I've had problems with the clips not being particularly secure and a couple have come off as I'm riding.

But at those prices, who cares if you lose a few under the wheels of a bus. Just make sure you have 2/3 on you bike at any time.

Mine arrived today, I bought 5x white and 5x red Knog type lights and 5x Smart clones.

Very impressed with them, thanks for the link.

Oh yeah, gave one of each to a girl at work - told her I'd left a phaart and a strap-on on her desk.. :-)

"So you'll be entirely relaxed if every car driver gives you a blast of their horn when they are 200m behind you on a shared road then? Just to make you aware like...."

I couldn't care less, unlike you, if I can see the car driver like the dog walkers can see me from 200 metres away....

I didn't say that I was doing it from behind them but thank you, have given me a few ideas to induce heart attacks...

Seriously, with the lights I suggested you will have NO problem with them flying off - brackets are VERY secure.

No worries - glad to help. Mine turned up today too. The Knog style at 59p weigh 23 grams. Seems incredible value as is pretty damn bright. Unfortunately these tos5ers who don't run any lights are gonna annoy me even more now!!

Wish I worked in an office so I could do this. You need to add how cheap they / she were to ice the cake and ask her if she found them adequate.

Please pass on to anyone you know who doesn't use lights. For these prices there really is NO excuse not to.

Cheers
